Disney's Star Tours Press Kit
Video
Just like with movies, Disney sent out Star Tours press kit videos to
newsstations across the country. However, in my opinion, this press
kit is a little more detailed than a movie press kit video. It has
more footage, more interviews, and runs longer than all movie press kits
I've seen. In any case, the Star Tours Video Press Kit has interviews
with Disney's Michael Eisner, George Lucas, and C-3PO. It lasts about
an hour long, but a large part of the tape is the opening ceremony, and a
stupid play with actors dressed as Luke, Han, Leia, Chewbacca, and Vader,
dancing around enacting some scenes.
The Star Tours TV
Special
In late 1986, Gil Gerard (Buck Rogers in the 25th Century) and Ernie Reyes
Jr. (that annoying kid from Surf Ninjas and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
II), hosted 'A Vacation In Space', promoting the Star Tours ride at Disneyland.
C-3PO and R2-D2 also made appearances. The show takes a peek
at how Star Tours was made, and also at the history of spacetravel and
space-flicks. At the end, Ernie Reyes Jr. and Gil Gerard actually go
on the ride, giving away some teasers of the ride itself. However,
most notably, at the beginning of the special, R2-D2 and C-3PO do a rapsong
(I'm not kidding - I will put up a .wav file of this soon to prove it), which
ends up being the highlight of this 15 minute 'commercial'.
