With Special Appearances by Mark Hamill,
Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, R2-D2, and C-3PO.
Details
In 1983 Christopher Plummer hosted a television gala special to honor the
15 most successfull motion pictures of all time. The special hosted
a variety of interviews and appearances by the stars of the films. John
Williams played the music from the 15 films, live, throughout the gala.
The films were:
Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, The Exorcist, The Godfather, Superman, Gone
With the Wind, ET the Extraterrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind,
Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Sound of Music, JAWS, Tootsie, Raiders of the
Lost Ark, and the Sound of Music.
The list of guest stars and interviewees was even more impressive:
Drew Barrymore, Jeff Conaway, C-3PO, Olivia De Havilland, Carrie Fisher,
Harrison Ford, Maurice Gibb, Mark Hamill, Robert MacNaughton, Butterfly McQueen,
R2-D2, Henry Thomas, John Travolta, Maria Von Trapp, and Dee Wallace.
The show was sponsored by CLOROX products, and started off with John Williams
conducting music from the 15 films... The show took a look at each
film individually, interviewing the castmembers. Some individuals were
at the gala itself, on the stage: R2-D2 and C-3PO, the supporting cast
of Grease (sans Travolta), and the cast of E.T. If only they still
made shows like this nowadays...
